If you own Intel Desktop Board DX58SO like I do, you should steer clear from BIOS updates 4598, and 5020 because they are broken.

Update 4598 messed up maximum turbo multiplier and CPU clock display (mine showed 25x and 3.33GHz instead of 22x and 2.93GHz), and update 5020 added insult to the injury by overclocking the CPU and RAM by changing the BCLK from 133 to 135 MHz — yes, I have loaded setup defaults after flashing.

Some users participating in Intel Support Community forum also noticed 135MHz BCLK, and complained that they can't set it back to 133 MHz. Setting BCLK back to 133 MHz doesn't work for me either. Furthermore, I tried setting my RAM back to 1333 MHz which I can do with a working BIOS because I have 1333 MHz capable RAM, and as soon as I change memory multiplier to 20/10 and BCLK to 133 MHz I can no longer boot except in recovery mode.

Since picture says more than a 1,000 words here are two pictures of the latest 5020 BIOS as a proof:

So, what's wrong on those pictures?

  1. 135 MHz BCLK (should be 133 MHz)
  2. 3.38 GHz turbo speed (should be 2.93 GHz)
  3. 1081 MHz RAM speed (should be 1066 MHz)
  4. 4.864 GT/s (should be 4.800 GT/s)
  5. 25x (should be 22x)

If Intel's DX58SO desktop board was some low-end or mainstream product, I would perhaps understand, but not checking two BIOS releases in a row, and messing up the only high-end product you have is beyond my comprehension.
