3Com, once a respectable name in networking and communications industry, well known for their very reliable and fast 3C90x series of PCI network adapters is now just a shadow of its former self.

If you came here looking for x64 drivers for Windows XP or Windows Vista for that good old 3C905B-TX PCI adapter you just found and wanted to use let me save you some time, bandwidth and potential OS damage from attempts to install 32-bit driver into a 64-bit OS — those x64 drivers do not exist and there never will be any. 32-bit drivers can't work in 64-bit OS. Stop wasting your time.

As you can see on the above link, the product has been discontinued and the latest drivers 3Com offers on their support website are dated November 7th, 2002. If you search for "x64 driver" on their website using Google the only drivers you will find will be those for 3C996 PCIx (not PCI-Express) cards dated August 16th, 2005.

I really do not understand how lame a company has to be not to produce 64-bit drivers for those cards which are still in widespread use. It is not like those drivers would be hard or expensive to make, and people would welcome having even unsupported and unsigned drivers so they don't have to throw away working hardware.

3Com will save some cents by not making those drivers but many other people will have to waste money and energy to recycle those cards (in countries where recycling exists of course), and then some more to buy another product when the old one would have worked just fine. We are such a wastefull society.
