Western Digital DRM saga

On his news website my friend Nikola Stojanovic wrote about WDC My Book World Edition external storage blocking access to 38 forbidden file types.
I tracked the news back to their source and I wasn't able to find out under which circumstances this device blocks access to those file types.
After browsing Western Digital support section, I got the impression that the WD Anywhere Access™ does not have to be used at all — it can be disabled, and the drive can be configured to use standard Samba shares thus enabling full access to the share content.
