Wolfdale CPUID and Intel Desktop Boards
Published on 2007/05/30 by Igor Levicki
It seems that Wolfdale CPUID might be 0x10661 at least according to the microcode update present in Intel Desktop Board D975XBX2 BIOS revision 2747.
The presence of this microcode update in newly released BIOS most likely means that Intel Desktop Board D975XBX2 (a.k.a BadAxe 2) will support Wolfdale and that Intel's new 45nm CPUs may be ready much sooner than anyone expected.
Sad news for all those who own Intel Desktop Board D975XBX (a.k.a BadAxe 1) like I do though. That otherwise still excellent motherboard is an EOL (End Of Life) product and it will not be validated for Wolfdale support by Intel engineers. Too bad, I was really hoping that I will be able to "stretch" it to at least two CPU generations.
UPDATE (2008-08-01):
Wolfdale CPUID turned out to be 0x10676, still I was right when I said that D975XBX2 will support it and D975XBX won't.
